The show we saw was at the Budweiser Event Center in Loveland Colorado on May 7th, 2006. The location, although a long drive from Denver, was a great venue to see the Wiggles.
Some concerns before the show:
1) How many songs would they play from Sailing Around the World?
2) How would Alex react? (Age 3 ½) His last Wiggles concert was 2 years ago (18 months old) and while it went ok he was not overly thrilled by it.
3) Since we are not on an aisle; would we get to give our roses directly to someone?
The concert began with Brett Clarke giving tips on keeping children in sight, finding the nearest exit in case of emergency and the like.
When the Wiggles came out they were riding in style in their Big Red Car much to the crowds delight. The last time they were in Colorado they didn't use the Big Red Car so this was wonderful to see; and got the concert going in grand style. The smiles were evident on all faces; both adults and children alike. A very well known song - and the car too - what could be better?
The Red Coat Dancers were incredible and so full of energy that even without a Wiggle on stage they provided exceptional entertainment; giving the Wiggles a much needed break now and then.
There seemed to be much more audience interaction than on previous Colorado concerts. This may have partially been because it was Anthony's birthday; as well as Brett's birthday. Brett Clarke, Murray, Jeff and Captain Feathersword all made trips into the audience including the upper decks; and this was not just to pick up the roses for Dorothy. Brett was the one who picked up our roses, and then he posed for a moment so we could take his picture. He was very gracious and seemed pleased when we told him happy birthday. He said hi to Alex before moving on to collect more roses.
Also new for this appearance in Colorado was Paul Paddick. Since he was on his honeymoon during the Wiggles last trip to Denver he was not in that part of the tour. It was wonderful to see him this time; so full of energy both on stage and in the crowd.
Many of the Wiggles classic hits were performed. The few songs from Sailing Around the World are also well known because of the Wiggles Show on Playhouse Disney. One lesser known song, the Sydney Barcarole, was performed by Sam Moran. This song, sung in total darkness except for cell phones backlights and the light wands sold at the concert was done in total darkness. It was an incredible experience to hear Sam sing this song performed live. Another much loved song, never before seen in concert in Colorado was Brown Girl In The Ring. This was a very special treat.
The Wiggles Medley everyone knows word for word was not performed at this concert. Instead a different new medley was done. While nice it was definitely different; and a few songs such as Rock-A-Bye Your Bear and Quack Quack (Captain Feathersword Fell Asleep) were conspicuously missing from the Wiggles Medley. Since the full versions of both songs were done in concert it was surprising to find them missing from the medley.
My concerns for the show were no problems at all. Only two songs from Sailing Around the World were performed. The song Sailing Around the World and the Sydney Barcarole were the two from that video. Alex, who is now 3.5 years old, really enjoyed the concert. He was absolutely thrilled to see the Big Red Car this time! The last concert when the car was not here was very hard for him. Finally, the concern about not having aisle seats worked out for us because of our location. It was not a full row behind us so Brett was able to come right behind us to get the roses for Dorothy.
Do I recommend this concert? Of course I do. In fact, I tried my hardest to convince my husband to go to the show that was just a few hours later. The Wiggles never fail to impress. These men, the Red Coat Dancers, Henry, Wags, Dorothy and the Captain just put on an incredible show each and every time.
